In the northern province of Esmeraldas in Ecuador, a month’s worth of heavy rain fell in just 12 hours this past week, the General Secretariat of Communications of the Presidency released in a statement. He noted that 15,000 families were affected, with various persons displaced and homes damaged.

Heavy rains and flooding bring to mind the story of the Old Testament most of us know, of Noah and the Ark. God brought his judgment upon humanity in a way He promised never to do again over all the earth, via a flood. However, God never promised He wouldn’t judge mankind for his sin. We know that “…it is appointed unto man once to die, but after this the judgment.”

When we see flood waters, it should call to mind what will be the final judgment for those who don’t know Christ. No doubt flood waters are frustrating these families in Ecuador as of now, but property damage, however annoying, can eventually be overcome. The judgment of God that will come to unbelievers can never be undone. This is why we labor, so that many in Ecuador and in Latin America can hear the gospel before it’s too late. Will you join us?
