The elevator opened to the third floor, and the man standing there nodded a quick hello to me as I disembarked. The brief glance I got of him told me he was a construction worker, dark- skinned, mid-to-late thirties, perhaps. He walked into the elevator behind me, the door closed, and I immediately wished I’d ventured a few words in Spanish. Maybe he doesn’t speak it anyway.
Later that evening, as I entered the exercise room (Deputation is not good for weight loss, I’ll tell you that!), I noticed the same man walking on one of the treadmills. As I tried to get on the other treadmill, he informed me that it didn’t work. True to my suspicions, I quickly realized he was a Spanish-speaker as I began to listen to the words coming out of the television behind me. “Habla español?” I asked.
His whole demeanor changed. A smile lit up his face and he nodded. “Sí.”
And César and I became fast friends. The time flew by as we talked about our lives and what we did. He soon headed back to his room, though, and I prayed that God would give me a chance to give him the gospel. The next day, the Lord opened the door just briefly for me to give him a tract and tell him that Jesus could save him.
I never saw him anymore.

I had just a few moments with César before we had to leave, and I imagine I may never see him again here on earth. But I’m thankful God gave me that time. But that one shot will probably be all I ever get.
Yet I know there are many more César’s out there. I pray God continues to open doors of opportunity to witness as we’re on our travels. Leslie came back to the car after being in a gas station yesterday and excitedly proclaimed how she’d been able to witness to the cashier. “Andy’s from India, and I gave him a tract and told him, ‘God loves you and gave His Son to save you, so that you can go to heaven someday’.” Perhaps Andy has never heard that God loves him. Maybe God sent her there just to let him know.
That’s why we’re going to Chile. Because there is somebody there who has never heard that God loves them. They don’t know that Jesus died and rose again to save them, and that He wants to forgive them of their sins. And we pray God allows us to have the privilege of imparting that truth to them. Would you consider partnering with us, that we may see the dear people of Chile reached with the gospel?

Pray with us that God will send more laborers to reach every city, town, house, and soul with the Gospel message. Pray that God uses the current economic stresses to draw people to Him, that the name of Jesus will be glorified.
