Despite the newly elected leader, President Moïse refused to accept that his term as president was over. The critics claim that Mr. Moïse has out-stayed his welcome and are worried about the impact this year could have if Mr. Moïse remains in office. As time progresses, Mr. Moïse claims that his last year – or what his opposition claims is his stolen year – will be devoted to setting up elections for next year and modernizing Haiti’s constitution.

The opposition fears that Mr. Moïse will change the clause that bans Haitian presidents from holding two consecutive terms in the presidential office, thus opening the door for him to retain the president’s seat for the next term in office. While there is ceaseless turmoil amongst those in government, there is yet more tragedy striking Haiti’s streets. People have been protesting day and night, tired of lockdowns caused by COVID-19 and government unrest. They are longing for peace and structure in their country. Above all, Haitians are hoping for someone that they can trust and look to for guidance. Mark 6:34 says, “And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.” The Haitians are a hurting people. They need someone who will have compassion on them, go to them, and tell them of the love of Jesus Christ! If no one goes, the Bible makes it convincingly clear that they are sheep without a shepherd to guide them to the truth of God’s Word. If not you, who will go? Please pray with me for eyes of compassion as Jesus had, for the country of Haiti – that laborers would go and that the lost souls would be saved.
