Jorge
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…” – Romans 1:16”
When I first met Jorge, he was sitting on the floor of a drug rehabilitation center. You see, weeks prior to meeting him, his wife, Lucky, along with her children, had been attending our church. Many times she would ask prayer for her husband, Jorge, and his drug and alcohol addiction. One day, she asked if we would go see him, now that he could have visitors, to see if he would listen to the gospel.
So Mario and I took the short trip to downtown Guatemala City where the rehab center was located.
After arriving and greeting the director, we were shown to the day room where all the residents in the program were at the time.
As we rounded a corner, the gentleman pointed to a man sitting on the floor and said, “That’s him.” We walked over to Jorge, introduced ourselves, and made some small talk. After talking for a while, we shared the gospel with him and how Christ could deliver him from the bondage of his addiction. He didn’t receive Christ at that time, but was kind and said we could come back anytime.
Soon after, Jorge was released to return home, and he began to attend our church. After several weeks of faithfully listening to the preaching of God’s Word, Jorge asked Christ to save him and to free him from his guilt and sin.
Praise the Lord, Jorge is now a loving father and husband, and a faithful help to Pastor Mario and the church. I am so grateful for the power of the gospel and how it changes lives.
