BRAZIL

Brazil is a very fascinating country. It is the only country in the Americas that speaks Portuguese. It is the largest country in Latin America by land area (3,288 million square miles) and population (more than 212,116,687 people), and the fifth largest country in the world.

The name Brazil comes from the brazilwood, a tree that once grew plentifully along the Brazilian coast. Around 60% of the Amazon Rainforest is located in Brazil, and the majority of the country enjoys a tropical climate.

Brazil is the largest Catholic country in the world. An estimated 123 million people claim to be Catholic, even though Catholicism has been declining numerically over the past several decades. This statistic is due to the ever-increasing number of Pentecostals, especially among the younger population. The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, headquartered in São Paulo, is one of the leading churches among the Pentecostal movement which boasts millions of members worldwide.

The largest city in the Western Hemisphere is São Paulo. In 2016, the greater metropolitan area was reported to be over 36 million people. Rio de Janeiro is the country’s second largest metropolitan area and possibly the most famous Brazilian city due to its renowned beaches and the 120 foot tall Christ the Redeemer statue. There are nearly 20 metropolitan areas in Brazil with one million or more inhabitants.

There is a tremendous need for more laborers to take the gospel to Brazil, a need to evangelize the lost, establish healthy doctrinal churches, and train faithful men who can teach others also. Would you please pray with us that the Lord would send more laborers to His harvest in Brazil? Please prayerfully ask God to use your life in this needful country.
