An Open Door

One of the most exciting things about Latin America right now is the openness to share and proclaim the Gospel! In almost all of the Latin American countries, there are no government restrictions on sharing the Gospel or starting churches.

We have a responsibility to get the Gospel to the whole world, and I am very thankful for the missionaries that are going to closed countries, but the door of opportunity that we have to share the Gospel freely in Latin America should not be ignored. Many people falsely believe that because of the openness to share the Gospel in Latin America there is a diminishing need to go and preach the Gospel there, however I would argue that openness for the Gospel does not diminish a need for the Gospel. As a matter of fact, openness for the Gospel increases the need for the Gospel. Because of the open doors to minister in Latin America, we should be even more pressed to go and work while the doors are open. Many of the countries in Latin America have only been opened to the Gospel in the last century, and we should take the opportunity that we have to go while they are open. Imagine with me if China, Morocco, or Iran became open to the Gospel.

Most Christians would be doing everything possible to go to these countries and reach them with the Gospel. However, it is interesting that only in the last century did most of Latin America become open to the Gospel. Ecuador did not have freedom of religion until 1899 and many other Latin American countries did not allow missionaries to come and proselytize until the mid 1900’s. Latin America has only recently opened up to the Gospel relatively speaking and this should motivate us to do everything we can to reach it while it is open. The Bible says in John 4:25 “Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” Not only are the doors to work in Latin America wide open but the fields are white and ready to be harvested.

The missionaries that I know who are working in Latin America are seeing great responses to the Gospel. They see churches established more quickly and more significant numbers of people attending and interested in church. This is not to say that God is not working in other parts of the world, but it is to say that there is a harvest in Latin America that is ready to be harvested. I can’t think of another place in the world that I would rather be working in right now. I hope you have realized that openness is an opportunity to work in Latin America. I also hope that you know that God is working and there are some fields which need to be harvested. Please consider giving your life to take the Gospel to Latin America. I could not imagine a better or more exciting thing to do with your life than to give your life to work as a missionary in Latin America.

Would you be willing to work in the fields that are white unto harvest?
